Belgrade has a reputation of one of the greenest capitals in Europe, because it has large oases of nature both in the center and on the outskrits of the city. In the forests at the periphery og Belgrade live dozens of species of rare birds. At the sights of nature, 182 individual trees have been listed and protected in Belgrade. The green asset of Belgrade cover an area of over 4000 hectares.
Compared to the build area, Belgrade parks are small and unequally allocated among the municipalities. In the parks dominate high trees, mainly deciduous species. There is around 30 different trees: maple and chestnut, lindenm sycamore, acacia, poplar, ash, birch, etc. From conifer trees there are mainly: pine, fir, larch, cypress, etc. The Belgrade parks are considered as young - around 80-90 of trees are younger than 60 years.
The green and well- kept Topcider Park lies in th evalley of the Topcider river. It represents one of the most favourite picnic sites for Belgrade inhabitants.

Topcider Park
The oldest park is Topcider, formed in the valley of Topcider river. In the first half of 19th century this landscape was full of vineyards and weekend houses of wealthy people. In 1831 Knez Milos Obrenovic started arranging the park , along with building the house. church, restaurant and casern.

Kalemegdan
Kalemegdan is one of the biggest parks in Belgrade. It is at the same time most important cultural-historical complex dominated by the Belgrade fortress.

In the park of Botanical garden lies a huge number of various trees and bush species of domestic and exotic plants, which are arranged in a way that provides visitors the feeling of a natural environment.
Big War Island
